Saturday 27th.

Woke up this morning to find it had snowed! A lacy covering over plants and grass. The sea a pearly turquoise, trees black outlines, every twig sharp against the brilliant sky and snow. On mornings such as this, we know why we live here.

Travelled to Glasgow to the Concert Hall for the St. Andrew’s Day concert – Ally Bain and Phil Cunningham and the SNO, with the Shotts and Dykehead Pipe Band. Fiona and Bincy came too – another shot of Scottish culture for her. The hall was full, the buzz, laughter, movement, lights are all part of the sense of occasion, as are the harps, violins, piano and polished copper kettle drums. I think these last are my favourite – I love the way he thumps them and then quiets the drum with his hand. Home through the snow. Christmas is beginning to make its presence felt in the atmosphere and the lights and trees appearing here and there.
